Our school was selected because of the percentage of our students who qualify for free or reduced lunch and breakfast.

All of our CPSD Title I schools are  designated as “school-wide” Title I schools, meaning that all children in the Title I schools are eligible for services.  When data indicates the need for interventions either because of low performance or at-risk behaviors, any student is eligible for Title I services. Your child may qualify for tutoring, before or after school programs, technology support, a classroom with fewer children or summer school. In addition, when Title I schools receive additional programs, they are available to all students for which they are designed regardless of their free or reduced lunch status.

All children in Title I schools benefit from the additional teachers and assistants.  Because there are more adults to help children, all children receive more individualized and small group instruction.  The goal of Title I services is to accelerate academic achievement so that all children meet or exceed state and federal standards of performance.

A major purpose of Title I is to increase the involvement of parents in a child’s education.  Under Title I regulations, all schools receiving Title I funds have developed a compact, an agreement between the school and the parents.  The compact is designed to help parents and teachers work together to provide the best possible education for each student.  Parents have opportunities each fall to provide input and participate in the School/Parent Compact.

There are many ways to get involved in your child’s education.  To begin, Title I funding is based on the percentage of children who qualify for free or reduced lunch.  You can help your child’s school by filling out the Federal Lunch Program application and turning it in at the office of your local elementary school.  You can also help by volunteering in your child’s classroom or by serving on the school Community Council.  This committee makes decisions about school programs, safety, goals and how funds are used in your child’s school. The Oregon Department of Education produces yearly profiles for schools and districts. These reports provide educators with an opportunity to communicate directly with parents and community members about how local schools are performing.

Title I schools are required to increase and enhance opportunities for parental involvement; and to seek parental feedback on improving the school. Our School Board Policy regarding Parent Involvement can be found HERE.

Parents have the right to:

• request teacher qualifications by contacting Corrie in our HR Department Corrie.Bailey@District6.org
• participate in decisions affecting their child;
• request opportunities to meet regularly with staff for parent involvement;
• review and help develop the school’s Title I-A plan and
• participate in school activities unless restrictions are in place for COVID-19.

Central Point School District 6 is committed to providing quality instruction for all students and does so by employing the most qualified individuals to teach and support each student in the classroom. All teachers who teach in core academic subject areas are required to be Highly Qualified.

Parents of children enrolled in a Title I School may request information concerning the professional qualifications of their child’s teacher(s) including the degrees held, certifications held, and whether the teacher is certified in the area he/she is teaching. Request for this information may be submitted to the school principal.

Highly Qualified teachers are fully certified and/or licensed by the state; hold at least a bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution; and demonstrate competence in each core academic subject area in which they teach. Oregon’s school report cards report Highly Qualified information about your school and district.

Title I schools must notify parents if their child has been assigned, or has been taught for at least four consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet the Highly Qualified criteria. Parents also may request information concerning whether their child is receiving instruction by a teacher assistant, and if so, his/her qualifications.

The Elementary and Secondary Education Act includes separate provisions to provide equitable services for eligible Private, Non-Profit school students, teachers and other educational personnel, and families. The term equitable services refers to the process of providing students, teachers, staff and families at eligible Private, Non-Profit Schools fair access to federally funded education programs and services, as appropriate.
